evil in USa
Here is a good place to start: We often hear about the sin/evil of America. Systemic Racism. Governmental Greed. Institutional Mass Incarcerations. Mass Shootings. Political factions and wars, and so on. But, I believe our focus is misdirected. The USA is comprised of USa. It has institutions, but they are governed and ran by USa. We have systems, but they are configured and operated by us USa; People; Humans. There are no perfect systems, institutions, or businesses, because there are no perfect people. We should be focusing on the sin/evil within USa. That’s a good place to start.
Sin/evil exists. Sin and evil are the same. They are theologically and practically the same. Theologically, sin/evil can only be defined or described if a perfectly good God exist. Without God, we are left with sinful/evil humans attempting to define and describe sin/evil. That doesn’t work. Therefore, God’s very nature is the standard we use to define good and also how we identify sin/evil. Sin/evil is a distortion of God’s perfect goodness. It is anything less than God’s perfect goodness, or is missing the mark of God’s perfect goodness. Sin/evil is disobedience, or the breaking of God’s law. In the words of Dr. Gregory Koukl, “sin/evil is goodness spoiled”. It lives at the core of human nature, and it is expressed through thoughts, words, and behaviors. That’s sin/evil. Whether you use the term sin or evil, they are the same. I will use the term evil throughout this article.
The problem, I see, is that we often identify evil as something outside of us, and not within us. We look at the behaviors of others and say “that’s evil in them”, but we rarely, if ever, look within and say “this is evil in me”. Here’s the truth: Pride or self-righteousness is a form of evil, and it never wants to be identified within us. So it is actually evil to only identify the evil in others and ignore the evil within us. This is a good place to pause and think.
Evil, in this life, can only be addressed (lessened), not completely destroyed; and the only way to address evil is through the preaching/teaching and demonstration of God’s truths, as clearly revealed in scripture. I know this is difficult to comprehend, but the reason evil cannot be completely destroyed in this life is because 1.) evil is at the core of our human nature and, 2.) we are unable to fix ourselves, by ourselves.
Is there a solution to completely destroying evil? Yes, but that would result in all of us being completely destroyed. Why? Because it is in our nature. We are responsible for the evil in our own lives and how we treat others in the world.
You may object: I’m a good person.
But God says: All have sinned or committed evil thoughts, words, or behaviors.
You may object: I never murdered anyone.
But God says: If you hate someone you are a murdered.
You may object: I’ve never committed adultery.
But God says: If you lust in your heart, you have committed adultery in your heart.
So, now what? What do you do? How can evil be completely destroyed without us being destroyed? God has a plan, for this life and the life come.
God desires that the evil in our lives and in the word be addressed (lessened) by us having a personal, loving and trusting relationship with Him, and as a result becoming more like Him. As we become more like Him, our evil nature begins to change more and more; and therefore our thoughts, words, and behaviors begin to change more and more. The better we become, the better the world becomes. Remember, this is God’s plan to address (lessen) evil. God’s ultimate plan to completely destroy evil will happen in His second coming, in His timing. This is when He will completely destroy evil for eternity. Satan, his demonic followers, and everyone who rejected having a personal, loving and trusting relationship with God will be casted into the abyss of hell. They will live forever without God, to be tortured by their own guilt, shame, hatred toward God, and regret with no chance of forgiveness or redemption. If you have a personal, loving and trusting relationship with God you will be completely transformed into His image and likeness. You will be a new creation, with a new nature that pleases and glorifies God.
Most of us are heartbroken by the evil we see in the world. Mass shootings (murder). Mass abortions (murder). Adultery (lust). Unforgiveness. Racism. Distrust. Division. Greed. Drunkenness. Deceit. Betrayal. etc. etc. But, if you have a problem with God delaying His second coming to completely destroy evil, stop and think, and ask yourself: Is there any evil in me? Would I also be destroyed if God would come now to completely destroy evil? The true question is: Do you have a personal, loving and trusting relationship with God, AND are you living and leading others to a personal, loving and trusting relationship with God. If we want to address the evil in USA, we must address the evil within USa!
